Dougga and Kairouan tour
Chauffeur-driven private car overnight excursion
This tour provides a fascinating insight into both the most ancient and the most modern aspects of Tunisia – including some important historic sites as well as the contemporary tourist centres.
Depart in the morning for Dougga, which houses some of the largest Roman ruins in Tunisia.
After lunch, visit the holy city of Kairouan, the fourth most important site in Islam. In the afternoon shopping in Medina, where the famed Kairouan carpets are displayed. Overnight in Kairouan.
On day two, your tour of Kairouan begins with the Aghlabite Basins, which were among the greatest waterworks of the time. Next, visit the 7th century Great Okba Mosque, the oldest in North Africa and Sidi Sahbi, known as the Mosque of the Barber, as it is the burial place of Zaouia of Sidi Sahbi, friend of the Prophet.
Proceed to Tunisia’s first purpose-built tourist town, Port El Kantaoui, a delightful modern development with marina and fine beaches. In Sousse, the capital of the Sahel region, there is plenty of time to visit the Medina and the souk before returning to Tunis.
