Mombasa city tour

Full-day seat-in-coach excursion

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya. It plays an important role in the country’s economy, not only for its imports and exports through its port, which is the largest in East Africa, but also as a destination for tourists visiting Kenya.

Our full-day excursion provides a wide-ranging overview of this fascinating city. We start with a visit to Fort Jesus, built in 1593 and its museum, housing displays dating back to the time when the city first became a major trading centre. Then walk through the old town, before emerging at the Dhow Harbour. From the harbour drive through the city centre, visiting the vegetable market, the busy main bazaar; the ornately decorated Hindu temple; Mombasa’s spectacular landmark Elephant Tusks, impressively spanning Moi Avenue; and the Akamba woodcarving industry where the work of talented local craftspeople may be purchased.

Lunch is taken aboard the Tamarind dhow, a floating extension of one of Kenya’s finest restaurants. Before returning to your hotel, we head north to explore the Bamburi Nature Trail where the botanical gardens are home to an enormous variety of animals, reptiles and insects.

Mombasa is a kaleidoscope of different cultures and languages and is a town that thrives on tourism.
