Your excursion starts with an afternoon pick up from your hotel to take you on a shopping tour of New Delhi. In the bazaars you will find hand-woven carpets, intricately embroidered shawls, paintings, leather goods, sandalwood carvings, gems, copper and brassware, perfumes, silver, pearls and gold – all stacked high in inviting profusion. In contrast, the modern malls stock goods from around the world, including all the latest fashions.
From New Delhi we travel to the colossal red sandstone Old Fort or Purana Qila, built in the 16th century on the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha.
A unique fusion of Mughal, Hindu and Afghan architectural styles, with walls extending for over two kilometres and reaching heights of 33 metres, Purana Qila provides a stupendous backdrop to the evening’s Sound and Light show. The hour-long performance vividly depicts events from Delhi’s 5,000-year history. The advanced technology used has made it possible to present startling special effects which, combined with the matchless surroundings, make this show a hauntingly unforgettable experience.
