Sao Paulo is a city of superlatives – the third largest city in the world, the largest in the southern hemisphere and the foremost industrial and business centre in Latin America.
Our comprehensive excursion provides an excellent introduction to the city and its neighbourhoods. We take you to the residential areas of Higienópolis with its 1950’s apartment buildings, Pacaembu Soccer Stadium and the School of Medicine before heading to Morumbi Hill for sweeping views across the city and the Jardim residential district.
We continue to Ibirapuera Park with its beautiful gardens and lakes. At the entrance to the park, visitors will admire Sao Paulo’s iconic monument, Bandeirantes – homage to the first settlers who expanded Portuguese America from small coastal enclaves to roughly the same territory as current Brazil. To the left of the monument is the Chamber of Deputies building and Obelisco Do Ibirapuera. The park is also the site of the city’s Planetarium, the Contemporary Art Museum and the Sao Paulo Biannual Art Exposition.
We then visit the Japanese district, Sao Paulo’s Cathedral, the bustling downtown and for shoppers, elite Oscar Freire Street, with its sophisticated restaurants, fashion shops, jewellers, chic cafés and art galleries.
