Murano is the most famous and the most visited island, courtesy of the famous glass-works that produce the popular ‘Murano Glass’. The people of Venice have been making crystal and glass since the 10th century.
Visit a famous glass-factory and witness an example of glass-blowing as well as the factory’s showroom full of beautiful glassware that exemplify the high quality of glass produced on the island. You may also opt for a visit to the Glass Museum of Murano, which showcases exquisite pieces and learn more about the process and history of glass-making in Venice. The Church of St Mary & Donato, which boasts a magnificent mosaic pavement is an additional place of interest.
The island of Burano is the most picturesque of the Venetian islands of the Lagoon, famous for its lace-making industry and its brightly coloured fishermen’s houses. Apart from the painted houses, Burano’s most identifiable landmark is the island’s church, San Martino.
