The Classical Sights tour

Full-day chauffeur-driven private car excursion from Cairo

This excursion takes you to some of the most awe-inspiring monuments and attractions that provide a fascinating insight into the history of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

The tour begins with a visit to ‘the major tourist site’ in the country – The Pyramids of Giza, the only remaining Ancient Wonder of the World. It is believed to have been built as a tomb for the fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu and constructed over a 20-year period.

You next visit the Sphinx, which stands as if to guard the Great Pyramids. Featuring the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh, the Sphinx is skillfully carved from limestone. Facing the rising sun and revered greatly by the ancient Egyptians, this is the largest and most recognisable monumental sculpture.

After lunch, you visit the Egyptian Antiquities Museum. Established in 1835, the present building which was built in 1900 houses an extensive collection of artefacts. One of the highlights of the museum is the treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb which include chariots, statues, jewellery and the famous beautiful gold death mask and sarcophagus. There is also the royal mummy room which is second to the Tutankhamun gallery in popularity and houses popular Pharaonic dignitaries.
