Cradle of the Renaissance

Collodi, near Florence – Pinocchio Park, which has statues and fountains of all the Pinocchio characters and a delightful puppet show. Younger kids will love this charming, old-fashioned park. The fun food for kids is gelato ice cream. Florence lays claim to the invention of gelato by Bernardo Buontalenti, who made it for the Medicis.

Florence offers an enormous variety of shopping. The main shopping area is between the Duomo and the Arno River, with boutiques concentrated along Via Roma, Via dei Calzaiuoli and Via Porta Santa Maria, leading to the goldsmiths lining Ponte Vecchio. Florence’s famed leather goods can be found in the city’s markets.

A variety of restaurants and cafés, theatre, museums, galleries, art exhibitions and festivals. Visit Pisa to see the impressive Leaning Tower and the Baptistery.
