Citizens of Guatemala can obtain a visa for up to 15 days at border gates.
Nationals of all other countries are required to obtain a visa prior to arrival.
Health requirements:
No compulsory vaccinations are required. However, diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, malaria, meningitis, polio, tuberculosis, tetanus and typhoid immunisations are recommended. Rabies is prevalent.

There is no limit on the import of foreign currency. However, not more than USD5,000 equivalent of local currency may be exported. Amounts in excess should be declared to customs on arrival (with an entry made in the passport). In case of re-exchange of Turkish Lira into foreign currency, a bank voucher is required for amounts exceeding the equivalent of USD5,000.
Payment in foreign currency is not accepted in Turkey. We recommend you change small denominations regularly so as not to lose out on the exchange rate. Currency exchange is offered in exchange bureaus that are located in the main tourist areas. All major credit cards are generally accepted but the preference differs from place to place. Visa cards are preferred over others. Automated teller machines (ATMs) can be found in the central areas of all cities.
Travellers cheques can be encashed at banks and exchange offices (which are closed on weekends).

Light to medium weight clothing is recommended for the summer and woollen clothing for the winter.

Customs:
Duty free allowance for all travellers: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 200 grams of tobacco (additional 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500 grams of tobacco if purchased at duty free shops). Five bottles of alcohol of one litre each or seven bottles of 700 cubic centilitres of alcohol, five bottles of cologne of 120 millilitres each and gifts to the value of EUR255.64. There are laws prohibiting or restricting the entry of narcotics, long-blade knives or weapons, cultural and historical works, game machines and more than two sets of playing cards.
Value Added Tax (VAT)
Refund Scheme:
Travellers not residing in Turkey, qualify for a refund of the Value Added Tax paid on goods purchased in the country. The minimum purchase amount for the rebate is TRY 118. Please note that in order to claim a VAT refund, you have to make your purchases in shops that are authorised to provide you with the refund.
How to claim your VAT refund:
You will receive either cash or a cheque reimbursement from the retailer. The cheque can only be encashed at the bank in the customs area at the airport.

Driving is on the right-hand side of the road. An International Driving Permit or driving licence from your country of residence is required.
